SAG is a union

The Screen Actor Guild is a union.

It has been since its formation in 1933.*

It is chartered as a union with the federal government with all the powers and benefits of a union.

So why do people still insist it is not a union but a Guild...and in modern usage what would be the difference?

*And yes SAG was formed and incorporated as a union. It replaced an producers formed Guild, weak and management controlled. I suggest David Prindle's book on SAG for those who want to go into the history.
