It’s happening according to a news release just issued by the Walt Disney Co., which just announced its acquisition of Lucasfilm.
The new film is targeted  to open in 2015, with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy serving as executive producer and George Lucas serving as creative consultant, the release said.
Additional feature films are expected to “continue the ‘Star Wars’ saga and grow the franchise well into the future,” the statement said.

Fox TV stations buy reruns of Charlie Sheen's 'Anger Management'

News Corp.'s Fox Television Stations Group has acquired rerun rights to Charlie Sheen's new comedy "Anger Management."
The deal keeps the show in the same family. News Corp.'s cable network FX telecasts new episodes of the show.
"Anger Management" premiered to solid if not spectacular ratings for FX earlier this year, averaging close to 5 million viewers per episode. That was good enough for the cable channel to agree to order an additional 90 episodes. That commitment allowed the show's production company, Debmar-Mercury, to sell reruns to the Fox stations after just 10 episodes.
In the past, it would have been unusual for broadcast TV stations to buy reruns of a TV show that first aired on a cable network. The rationale was that the cable shows had too small a following to attract the kind of audience needed to work for a broadcast station.
But that has started to change as many cable shows are now drawing audiences comparable to what the broadcast networks get. Plus, Sheen is a familiar face to viewers from his movie career and the long-running sitcom "Two and a Half Men."
"Typical wisdom says off-cable shows aren't right for general syndication, but that's way too narrow-minded for today's reality," said Frank Cicha, senior vice president of programming for the Fox TV station group.
"When a program produces these ratings, regardless of the platform, you have to take it seriously," he added. "We did, and we expect 'Anger Management' to be a key piece of our sitcom dominance for years to come." Fox's station group reaches almost 40% of the country.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Fox is paying cash and giving up ad inventory for Debmar-Mercury to sell in the show, which is standard for most rerun sales.

The Skinny: Time Warner Cable better get those deals done with DirecTV and Cox Cable for its new Lakers channel soon. A few more games like Tuesday night's and it will be a tough sell. Wednesday's headlines include Walt Disney Co.'s big deal for Lucas Films; Sony is cutting back on the number of movies it makes and former Disney executive Rich Ross has landed a new gig.
Daily Dose: The ink isn't even dry on the Disney - Lucas Films deal (see below) but one Disney Channel show is already embracing their new "Star Wars" connection. In an incredible coincidence, replicas of R2D2 and C3PO appear in a new episode of "A.N.T. Farm" premiering Friday. The plot revolves around some of the characters being sent on a scavenger hunt that takes them to Skywalker Ranch to try to get an autograph from George Lucas. Now maybe they can get Lucas for a cameo. Meanwhile the animated Star Wars and other Lucas Film characters and concept shave been increasingly appearing on Disney channels and product distribution packages for over two years.

Walt Disney Co. has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in a surprise deal that gives the media giant control of the "Star Wars" franchise.
Along with the purchase, Disney announced that it plans to release a seventh live-action "Star Wars" movie in 2015.
The agreement continues Chief Executive Bob Iger's strategy of growing Disney through huge acquisitions that give the Burbank company control of key pieces of intellectual property.

Because Sony is cutting back on the number of movies it wants to make every year. The studio will take swings for the fences with a "Spider-Man"here and there but midsize comedies and dramas may be a tough sell there. Sony Studios for Sale?

Chief exec Kaz Hirai tells THR in a statement, "There is no reason to sell" as rumors run rampant in Hollywood.

At this time of flux in the film industry, top executives believe just about every studio might be for sale either now or in the near future.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is the subject of the most speculation thanks in part to the financial troubles of its Japan-based parent company.
However, in response to a query from The Hollywood Reporter, Sony chief executive Kaz Hirai says in a statement: “There is absolutely no truth to rumors that Sony’s Entertainment businesses are for sale. ... Our entertainment companies have a stable business foundation and are poised for future growth. There is no reason to sell these industry-leading businesses, and no consideration is being given to the idea.”

Ross back as boss. Rich Ross, a former high-ranking Walt Disney Co. executive who was forced out as head of the company's movie studio last spring, has resurfaced as chief executive of TV production company Shine America. Shine, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. and run by his daughter Liz, is best known as a reality TV company. However, it wants to make a bigger push into scripted fare and Ross got high marks for his programming chops when he ran Disney Channel.

No currency? Current TV, the tiny cable channel co-founded by Al Gore, is looking for a buyer but finding that no one is rushing to knock on the door. The problems are that the channel is only in 60 million homes and has low ratings. It bet big on Keith Olbermann and we know how that turned out. Changing My Mind About Justin Bieber

I will never feel the same about this over-hypped kid.

[The Associated Press] LAS VEGAS — Teen pop sensation Justin Bieber is performing a private concert for an east Las Vegas elementary school.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal he did acountic sets in each elementary school classroom, talking with kids individually, while teenagers waited outside to catach a glimps of their heart throb.

Years ago I did volunteer work at that school, where the majority of the kids are homeless, many living in cars or tents. It moved me then and moves me now. -Art Lynch

Justin Bieber thrilled hundreds of underprivileged children yesterday when he performed at a private concert during a charitable visit to a Las Vegas school.
Students at low-income Whitney Elementary were ecstatic when the teen pop sensation took to the stage to sing songs from his Christmas album.
The 17-year-old's special appearance was filmed for The Ellen DeGeneres show.

Two months ago he had pledged to donate $100,000 to the school's 650 student body and yesterday he handed over the check. 

He also treated the students, many who are homeless, to an additional $100,000 in Christmas gifts. 

Superstore Target also matched Bieber's generous pledge, donating an additional $100,000 to the struggling school.

The money will be used to support the children and their families in order to help keep the youths in school. 

At the event Bieber spoke of his own family's financial struggles growing up.
He told them about a particular incident, where his family were forced to visit a food bank.

During the concert Bieber sang acoustic versions of his Christmas tunes, and the children immediately leaped of their feet to dance along with the teenage star to his international hit, Baby. 

Students at the school were overjoyed that the young star had made good on his promise. 

Fourth grade student Kyendi Harris told the Huffington Post: 'He really came for us. I'm so glad that he really came for us,'

And Kiersten Umberger, 17  said she nearly broke down in tears when she saw Bieber.

'It was the best moment of my life,' she said.

The Whitney school, which has one of the highest population of homeless children in Nevada, first appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres show in September. 

The institution helps underprivileged students by paying their family's bills, and providing them with clothes and food. 

During a typical school day, most classmates are given a free or heavily discounted lunch.

The school's Principal Sherrie Gahn told DeGeneres that by helping out the families, it ensues that the children actually attend school. 

'I'll pay your electrical bill, your utilities, I'll give you food or clothes, whatever you need, as long as you give me your child and then help raise that child as a person of character,' she told the talk show host.

'My biggest motivator for the kids and the thought and the hope that they don't have to live in this existence when they grow up – that they break the cycle,' added Gahn.

Will LV, Phoenix, San Diego and COX Country be able to see the Lakers play?

Cox Cable and DirecTV are still trying to reach an agreement to carry Time Warner Cable's new sports channel SportsNet in time for the outlet's first Lakers telecast Wednesday night.
Time Warner Cable's SportsNet, which launched Oct. 1, is the new TV home for the Lakers and will be the only channel fans can watch 57 of the team's 82 regular-season games. Other games will be available on national outlets including Tuesday night's season opener against Dallas on TNT
Last week, Time Warner Cable struck distribution deals for SportsNet and the Spanish-language service Deportes with Charter Communications, AT&T U-Verse and Verizon Fios. Besides Cox and DirecTV, the other big holdout is Dish Network.
Between them, Cox and DirecTV have almost 3 million subscribers in Southern California. Dish has an additional 850,000. Time Warner Cable has about 2.3 million subscribers.
At issue is the price for SportsNet and Deportes. Time Warner Cable is seeking as much as $3.95 per-subscriber per-month for the networks, which come as a package. Besides the Lakers, Time Warner Cable has the TV rights to the Los Angles Galaxy soccer team. It will also aggressively go after the Dodgers, whose contract with Fox's Prime Ticket network expires at the end of next season.
Cox and DirecTV said they are continuing negotiations with Time Warner Cable but neither would say if they were optimistic an agreement could be reached before the start of Wednesday night's game between the Lakers and the Portland Trail Blazers. Dish did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
