"Champaign" from Alfred Hitcock

ALFRED HITCHCOCK, THE EARLY YEARS

image
Champagne stars Betty Balfour (nicknamed the “British Mary Pickford”) as the bubbly, befeathered flapper with some lessons to learn about love and fortune. Recently restored by the British Film Institute, this 1928 comedy is one of nine surviving silent films by Alfred Hitchcock, whose papers andscripts reside in the Academy Library. This fabulous ‘double grande’illustrated by Venabert and printed by Jules Simon in Paris, France, displays all the graphic nuances and lush coloration characteristic of stone lithography.
