How does marketing impact our work? How will changes in marketing impact talent?

Movie marketing has moved on, away from in theater promotions, which supports and reinforces only the existing audience, to promotion of films as far as a year off on television, the Internet, billboards, at bus stops and in other than trade publications. "Building hype" is not new, but now the promotions often go well beyond teasers, revealing characters, plots and stars.

How will this impact existing of near term releases. If a star is known for a future film, will it impact his or her current projects? How about their future work for which they have yet to sign contracts? 

What will advance and multi-media promotions do for talent in the multi-platform universe?
